Hijab Cosplay Gallery 1st Gathering
Venue: Garden Cafe and Restaurant, Midvalley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur
Attendance: 17 girls
Time: 11 am - 5 pm

Hijab Cosplay Gallery (will be referred as HCG onward) is a group aiming to expand into a better community of girls, who are interested in Japanese culture, particularly cosplay and lolita fashion. I am not sure when it was established and according to the admin of the group, there is other HCG group in Indonesia and apparently, it has expended quite quickly compared to one in Malaysia.

I can guess why Malaysia HCG can't grow as fast as Indonesia HCG.

/claps hands/ anyway! Moving on with the gathering cover!

The gathering was planned a month before the date and it was a spur of moment. Me- being the 'I wanna go out on my holiday and have fun!' kind of girl, suggested to have one day gathering with the girls. It was a total random suggestion, but with the purest intention /smug face/.

1st May is the Labor day and a public holiday in Malaysia. I took this date because ONE; it falls on Friday so that means we can have rest on Saturday and Sunday but I forgot to consider those who actually have to work on Saturday /slaps forehead/ TWO; I imagine people will leave Kuala Lumpur and head elsewhere for holiday but I was damn wrong! and THREE; it is the first day of the month, so it means they probably have earn salary to spend for the food during the gathering.

I got my salary on that day, so?!

Initially, there were only few people who have confirmed joining the gathering. I would say... around nine? In fact, based on the poll made by the admin of the group, there are more counts for 'not joining' than the counts for 'joining'.

Hana is sad, happy mood drops drastically!

Even so, being one of the members who will attend the gathering, I have decided to at least come up with something fun for everyone. I came up with a game few days before the gathering and Alhamdulillah, I made it.

Due to little number of people who could attend the gathering, admin Kira-chan failed to reserve place for us. She did call and left her name but the cafe management cannot promise for spot for us. And so, we all have to come as early as possible and it seems me and Syazana-chan and her relative arrived first.

Yay! The first to arrive and so I picked place far inside the cafe, with good lightning for the morning for selfies and some havoc. To be honest, my most concern is the chaos and noises we will make- or I will make. /smug face/

Someone (note: that's Syazana-chan) is studying for her exam. Ganbatte for your SPM, dear. Me being her English teacher, and I have graduated from high school five years ago. I am surprised I still remember some techniques to tackle the exam papers. Huh.

The arrival of HCG members! /cheers/ The first on the right in pink dress, with the pink flower crown in front of her on the table is the admin of the group, Kira-chan. There's Airi-chan, Syazana-chan, Midori-chan, forgot the name gomen nasai!, Hikari-chan, Aices-chan, forgot the name gomen nasai! and forgot the name gomen nasai!

I am a terrible person I am sorry I could not catch the names. This is my most lacking point. /cries a river/ So there were ten people. At first I thought oh that's all I guess considering the poll and the responses received on the group page and group chat. Until it was 10:45 +....

One big happy family! Here's the front table girls and...

Here are the middle and back table girls.

There were total of seventeen girls and some actually were cosplaying. I am proud of them, for able to continue the great cosplay spirit even in hijab.

Note: don't bash them, please. I know hijab cosplayers cannot be as excellent and perfect as other cosplayers due to the restrictions on attire and whatsoever, but guide them. Cosplay brings people with same passion and interest together, forming great family of communities, and so don't neglect them!

I love cosplay, and I do want to see these girls in hijab shine in their cosplay too. YOU GUYS WITH GREAT COSPLAY EXPERIENCE, HELP THEM TOO! I don't see any harm helping them, giving them ideas how to style their shawl to be as stylish as the character's hair.

Hana likes harmony life, harmony circle of people!

The gathering began with two admins of HCG giving welcome speech to everyone.

Despite the group is called Hijab Cosplay Gallery, I feel this group is not only limited to costume-wearers. In such, we have Lolita lovers, Japanese culture fans as well as illustrators or those who enjoy making art works.

Based on my observation, I can see the diversity in the group. And so, I think this group will grow marvelously Insya Allah but we are talking about Malaysia here, so.

I know I should not make my own nation people look bad and narrow-minded, but it's the truth. Majority of people in Malaysia ARE narrow-minded, stuck to the traditions and unable to accept changes.

Instead of feeling inspired to be better, we prefer to bash about the individual or the group and criticize their glory.

Anyway!

After introductions were given by our lovely admin Kira and admirable admin Aices, each member had to introduce themselves.

Kira-chan is taking picture of member during the introduction session.

We- I the most- had so much during the gathering. We were not so awkward with one another, everyone trying their best to make the gathering happy and unforgettable.

Thank you everyone for the great moment. May Allah bless our bond onward and let us meet each other again soon!

I was the mother during the gathering, taking orders and organizing game for people. Thank you Kira-chan for allowing me to run a game and thank you too for making today's gathering happening!
